Zeus – Streetopoly US Collection: D*Face
Dean Zeus Colman, also known as Zeus, is a British artist born in London in 1968. His latest works combine graffiti, typography, sculpture and fine art. Moreover, the artist is also known as a pioneer of 3D graffiti. Urban culture is the source of his inspiration. The innovative and dynamic works he has created reflect both his interest in street art and his formal training. From 1994 to 1997, Colman attended Chelsea College of Art.
Through his association with British DJ Tim Westwood, Zeus had the opportunity to work with Paul Oakenfold’s team, making backdrops and posters for artists who were signed to his record label Def Jam, including Dougie Fresh and Whiz Kid.
After house music peaked, Zeus also received commissions from Warehouse Clubs that were springing up all over the capital, as well as West World in Brixton Academy. All of these contacts have spurred his career and encouraged him to think beyond the confines of spray paint and walls.
Zeus has been working with numerous community centres across London to teach young people graffiti techniques and promote this art form as an effective, positive outlet for adolescents’ energies and creativity.
After returning to college, he secured a place at Chelsea College of Art to pursue a degree in Fine Art. His focus was on sculpture. He took his art into a three-dimensional form and created graffiti sculptures from lightweight wooden panels.
Over the next decade, public interest in Zeus increased. The Face magazine called him a 3D graffiti pioneer and his work was exhibited at several locations in the UK, including the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of the StreetStyle exhibition.
Colman’s Streetopoly US Collection is on display at the Streetart Museum Muca in Munich. It is also part of the Ministry of Walls collection.
